Winter

Snow Snow Snoooooow! I still like it

I wonder why people think Christmas lights ever need to get taken down.  Personally, I would leave them up all year if it was socially acceptable.  I already leave them up for 6 months.  I mean, so much work goes into putting them up, why would you want to take them down?!  Well, at least I gave in and unplugged them by the end of January.  Deal with it neighbors.  You know I’m awesome.

This is my porch light.  There is no grand story here.  So, look at the light, stare at the light, be the light.

This is the view from my front porch.  It was about 5 pm, and just getting dusky out, but really it just made everything look super blue and pretty.  I’ve missed snow this winter.  I didn’t realize it, but it’s just been dreary out.  This, now this, this is what I like.  It just gives me warm fuzzies to look out of my window and have it look like this!  I know you all want it to be over, but I feel like it never began, so just let me enjoy.

This looks the sledding hill of doom.  Actually it was quite cheerful at Elver when I took this.  But I thought the clouds made it look kind of doomsdayish.  Morgie thinks that after I monkeyed with it it still looks happy.  However, I beg to differ.  I worked long and hard to make this look like an abysmal day for sledding, just so that I could call it my hill o’ doom.

Enjoy the snow 🙂  I love it, you should too.

DC Hurrah!

I went to D.C. this past weekend to visit my darling friend Hiren who moved there recently (sad panda!) for a fabulous new job.  Of course, since I had a few weeks off, visiting him was the obvious decision.

My first stop was to head to the D.C. sculpture garden.  It was cold though, and overcast, which was lame.  However, it was still warmer than WI, so i got over it.

Next stop… Natural history museum!  I spent most of my time here (big surprise, I know).  D.C. is totally filled with awesome looking buildings and monuments, they’re just everywhere.  It’s very cool just to wander around looking at things, even if you don’t go inside the buildings!!

The Jefferson Memorial… Me and Hiren got a tour from a super cute ranger named Neil.  It was surprisingly interesting and informative.   Thanks Neil!

Three Soldiers…

And last but not least, here is the Vietnam war memorial.  It was starting to get dark when we got here, and was cold and overcast.  It seemed like an appropriately somber environment for this memorial.

Holten Christmas = Awesome. Period.

Dude.  It’s Christmas.  You may have thought it was over.  You were wrong.  It turns out that us members of the Holten clan take our holidays very seriously.  We celebrated Christmas on January 7th this year.  Christmas is our most serious Holten holiday, and it is always an epic day of food, gifts, tournaments, and most importantly…gambling.

As our family has gotten larger over the years, our Holten Family Pool Tournament has gotten ginormous (on a side note, did you know that ginormous is actually in the dictionary?  I always thought it was made up).  It is awesome, we have trophies, a three dollar buy-in, and we even get to take our winnings from a boob mug.  This year was the 25th Annual Holten Pool Tournament.   We had to get a new trophy this year because our other one couldn’t fit any more winners’ names on it.  Yup.  We’re awesome.

I think our family tripled in size this year.  All of a sudden there were like a million babies everywhere.  I don’t know how this happened (or at least I don’t want to think about it).  I included pictures of two of our new additions below (there are more than this – they’ll be on here another day I’m sure).  Lillian, my new baby niece with my cousin Cassie (aboobooboooo), and bright eyed Ethan, my cousin Jenny’s son.

Who doesn’t want to have the last pictures they look at on this blog be of adorable children?  That’s what I like best about little kiddies, I don’t even have to take a good picture, they just make it awesome all by themselves.
