DC Hurrah!

I went to D.C. this past weekend to visit my darling friend Hiren who moved there recently (sad panda!) for a fabulous new job.  Of course, since I had a few weeks off, visiting him was the obvious decision.

My first stop was to head to the D.C. sculpture garden.  It was cold though, and overcast, which was lame.  However, it was still warmer than WI, so i got over it.

Next stop… Natural history museum!  I spent most of my time here (big surprise, I know).  D.C. is totally filled with awesome looking buildings and monuments, they’re just everywhere.  It’s very cool just to wander around looking at things, even if you don’t go inside the buildings!!

The Jefferson Memorial… Me and Hiren got a tour from a super cute ranger named Neil.  It was surprisingly interesting and informative.   Thanks Neil!

Three Soldiers…

And last but not least, here is the Vietnam war memorial.  It was starting to get dark when we got here, and was cold and overcast.  It seemed like an appropriately somber environment for this memorial.

It’s official. I AM the crazy cat lady.

Not like you all didn’t know this already, but I love my cats.  I mean, LOVE my cats.  Although, I must admit, my love is not fair (sorry Izzy).  Albert remains the object of my affection for two reasons.  The first is that he’s super snuggly.  Actually, he’s aggresively snuggly, I’ve never seen anything like it, and it puts some people off… Secondly, he’s CRAZY.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to catch any of his super crazy antics today, I think I’ll have to call in for reinforcements for that photo shoot.  Expect future Albert crazy posts, but this one is a little of Izzy, and a little of Albert.

We’ll start off with Izzy today.  She’s very sweet, and unfortunately a little smelly (sorry pretty kitty).  Ah well, can’t have everything.  Despite this, everybody in my family prefers her to Albert.

And here’s Albert!  He’s adorable.  And crazy.  And fabulous.  I love him desperately.  Sometimes I think he still thinks that he lives in a barn.

Awww, pretty kitty wanna go outside??? Well, you can’t!  Although, maybe it would be ok.  Usually when tries to get out (which is always), and succeeds (usually only with guests), he just rolls around outside under the car.

It took me forever to get the lighting on this one right.  Stupid camera thinks it’s so smart.  Well I beat you camera!  HA!

Any photos you’d like to see?  Put ideas in the comments below!  I’ll do what I can!  Ellie – Albert’s tail in the wind photos will have to wait until I can find where I put my fans.  So, summer?

I honestly didn’t really think any of the pics of Izzy were blog worthy, but I felt bad not including the poor girl.  I’ll catch some more interesting pics of her when she’s scampering about some other day!

Holten Christmas = Awesome. Period.

Dude.  It’s Christmas.  You may have thought it was over.  You were wrong.  It turns out that us members of the Holten clan take our holidays very seriously.  We celebrated Christmas on January 7th this year.  Christmas is our most serious Holten holiday, and it is always an epic day of food, gifts, tournaments, and most importantly…gambling.

As our family has gotten larger over the years, our Holten Family Pool Tournament has gotten ginormous (on a side note, did you know that ginormous is actually in the dictionary?  I always thought it was made up).  It is awesome, we have trophies, a three dollar buy-in, and we even get to take our winnings from a boob mug.  This year was the 25th Annual Holten Pool Tournament.   We had to get a new trophy this year because our other one couldn’t fit any more winners’ names on it.  Yup.  We’re awesome.

I think our family tripled in size this year.  All of a sudden there were like a million babies everywhere.  I don’t know how this happened (or at least I don’t want to think about it).  I included pictures of two of our new additions below (there are more than this – they’ll be on here another day I’m sure).  Lillian, my new baby niece with my cousin Cassie (aboobooboooo), and bright eyed Ethan, my cousin Jenny’s son.

Who doesn’t want to have the last pictures they look at on this blog be of adorable children?  That’s what I like best about little kiddies, I don’t even have to take a good picture, they just make it awesome all by themselves.

I’m going to be so popular!!!

So do you know when you get those really awesome presents?  I mean, the ones that you aren’t expecting, but turn out to be totally and completely perfect?  Well, I got two of those this year from Momma Stalder.  Upon opening this gift, which is an amazing three-crockpot-in-one warming buffet(?) I actually have no idea what this is called.  I could look at the box, but that would just be too easy.  This way is better.  Now you all have the opportunity to just look at the pictures and insert your own name.  But anyways, you can imagine my delight upon opening this fabulous device.  I was so totally excited about receiving this gift, and about the future ramifications for all of my future hosting events, that I immediately yelled out “I’m going to be SOOO popular!!!!!”  Who knew cookware could be so exciting?!

Next awesome gift.  This little beauty is going to keep my house from burning down because of those late night pizzas.  You literally can’t leave it on over night, which is perfect for its current location on my bar.  Which is also incredibly close to the freezer.  Which will be stocked with like hundreds of delightful frozen pizzas.  Ah yes, it’s going to be a good year.
